Respected Project Management Author, Researcher and Professor Hans Thamhain killed in cycling accident in USA


16 July 2014 – Boston, MA, USA – Hans Thamhaim, globally respected project management researcher, author and educator, died Friday, July 11, 2014 as a result of a biking accident. Dr. Thamhain, aged 77 and a resident of Framingham, Massachusetts, was a Professor at Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts. He was the beloved husband of Ingrid Thamhain for the past 55 years. In addition to his wife he is survived by his children, Petra Lively and her husband Mark of Texas; Thilo Thamhain of California; 2 grandchildren, Lona and Yaro Lively; a sister, Doris Leissle and her family of Germany.

He received his PhD from Syracuse University and in 1976 moved to Framingham.  Currently he was a tenured professor at Bentley University in Waltham. Hans has shared his knowledge in Business Management at conferences and seminars around the world.  His passion has always been in sports.  He completed 4 Hawaiian Ironman races and was a fierce competitor in triathlons.   Hans ran in the last 35 Boston Marathons.  (photo courtesy of Bentley University)

A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 16, at 10 AM at Pilgrim Church, Common St., Southborough, Massachusetts with burial following in the Southborough Rural Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in to Hans Thamhain Scholarship Fund, c/o Management Dept., Bentley University, 175 Forest St., Waltham,  MA, 02452 USA. Dr. Hans Thamhain specializes in technology-based project management. He is a Professor of Management and Director of MOT and Project Management Programs at Bentley University. His twenty years of engineering and business management include GTE/Verizon, General Electric and ITT. Dr. Thamhain has published over seventy research papers and five professional reference books in project and technology management, including Management of Technology, Wiley 2005. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Contribution Award from the Project Management Institute in 1998 and the IEEE Engineering Manager of the Year 2000/2001 Award; certified as NPDP and PMP; profiled in Marquis Who’s Who in America.
