25 September 2013 – Warsaw, Poland and Dubrovnik, Croatia – The IPMA Young Crew have announced finalists for the IPMA Young Project Manager of the Year Award.  The winner will be announced during the IPMA Young Crew Workshop in Dubrovnik, Croatia on 29 September 2013, immediately prior to the 27th IPMA World Congress.

130925-pmwj15-award-IMAGEDignity does not consist in possessing honours, but in deserving them,” said Aristotle.

The IPMA and IPMA Young Crew believe that there are many young people who deserve the highest honours. For this reason, they organize the Young Project Manager of the Year awards (previously known as the Young Project Manager Award). This prestigious title goes each year to a different person, the most promising rising talents from the project management industry. The award was introduced in 2006 and each year it receives more and more applicants. From this year it is a part of the new awards category under IPMA umbrella – IPMA Achievement Awards. Being now a part of a specialized and bigger portfolio, the Young Project Manager of the Year title moves to the next level of maturity and it will evolve with a faster speed.

The first step was to integrate the assessment of the award with other award committees. Thus, the Jury was not only selected by the IPMA Young Crew, but the Jury body included also members of other awards. The awarding process is as before, based on the IPMA Competence Baseline (ICB). The Jury includes always experienced and prominent names from the IPMA Family. This year the Jury consisted of 5 members:

  • Subas Subedi (Nepal) – 2013 Young Project Manager Award Winner
  • Carla Ferreira (Portugal) – 2012 Young Project Manager Award Finalist
  • Edward Logan (USA) – Former Young Crew Chairman
  • Maria Simek (Austria) – Former Young Crew Management Board Member (2010-2012)
  • Alan Tupicoff (Australia) – IPMA Award Committee

In round 1 of the award, the Jury evaluated the application forms sent by candidates from all over the world. The Jury examined each of them thoroughly and they reach the decision about names, the ones who get to the Award Final:

  • Mukunda Adhikari, from Nepal
  • Kamil Mroz, from Belgium
  • Cristian Soto, from Bolivia

Their assessment has been based on the presentation of a project and individual skills: they have been required to present a project description, applicant self-evaluation, responsible and customer evaluation. These honorees have demonstrated invaluable impact to both their profession and their companies, and are on the fast track to becoming influential project leaders on an international scale.

To ease their participation to the event in Croatia, the finalists are entitled for a pre-paid ticket, including access to the Global Young Crew Workshop, relevant social program and entrance to the IPMA World Congress. The winner will also attend all the social events and the awarding ceremony during IPMA World Congress. In addition, each of the three finalists will receive a sponsorship package that will reimburse their individual travel and accommodation expenses of up to 1000 Euro/each.

And who will be this time the Young Project Manager of the Year?  We will learn on September 29th, during the official Award Ceremony taking place during the Gala Dinner of Global Young Crew Workshop in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Whoever from those three it will be, we know already, that it will be an inspiring and extraordinary person.
