Call for Papers for UMD’s 2019 PM Symposium


Share your knowledge and experience at the University of Maryland’s 6th Annual Project Management Symposium – Abstract Deadline November 4th

4 October 2018 – College Park, Md. USA – The University of Maryland’s Project Management Center for Excellence has issued their call for papers and presentations for the 6th Annual University of Maryland Project Management Symposium.  The conference will take place 9-10 May 2019 at the University of Maryland campus in College Park.

Share your project management experiences with your peers; participate in the University of Maryland’s Fifth Annual Project Management Symposium as a speaker.

Supporting the theme, “Turning Knowledge into Practice,” project management professionals from the Baltimore-Washington area and abroad will come together to share best practices and lessons learned, plus discover the latest advances in project management.  The 2018 Symposium welcomed its largest-ever audience with more than 400 experts from industry, government, and academe. The 2019 event should be larger yet.

Individuals and organizations are invited to submit abstracts of papers or presentations to be featured in program sessions for the 2019 symposium. These papers and presentations can be case studies, lessons learned, best practices, research findings or the latest advances in project management. Abstracts are due by 4 November 2018, so act now.

Wideman PM Website updates announced for October 2018

Max Wideman is one of the world’s best-known project management authorities. An engineer and professional project manager, his experience includes systems, social and environmental projects, as well as design and engineering projects. He is a Fellow of the Project Management Institute, of which he is past president and chairman and for which he led the development of the 1987 version of the Project Management Body of Knowledge. He is also a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers (UK), the Engineering Institute of Canada, and the Canadian Society of Civil Engineering.

University of Southampton graduate student completes PM Research Internship



Ismail Can Kürtük completes PM World Library research internship program

20 September 2018 – Southampton, UK and Dallas, TX, USA – PM World has announced that Ismail Can Kürtük, a graduate student at the University of Southampton in the United Kingdom has completed a PM World Library project management research internship. Mr Kürtük completed the program on 19th September 2018.

İsmail Kürtük is currently pursuing his MSc degree in Project Management at the Southampton University Business School in Southampton, England for the academic years 2017-2018 with a scholarship from the Turkish Government.

İsmail Kürtük graduated from the political science and public administration department of the University of Kocaeli in Turkey with a Bachelor’s degree. After that graduation, he worked in the family textile company in the position of crisis and risk manager for a year (2012-2013) and also in the position of project supervisor the subsequent year (2013-2014).

Ismail’s major field of study includes project management, political science and public administration. Research interests include leadership in project management, decision making in project management, management of public projects, cultural differences in project management, ethics and teamwork.

According to PM World Library Director David Pells, “Ismail Kürtük contributed a number of articles and papers on intuition and project management, a very interesting new topic for the library.  He researched some other useful topics as well, but the resources he found on intuition and improvisation in managing projects were really interesting.”

According to Ismail, “This internship was very useful for me.  In addition to researching some new and interesting topics, I learned more about researching project management on the internet.  I highly recommend this program to other students.”

Pells added, “Ismail was our second intern from the University of Southampton.  Like Ömer Dağlı before him, Ismail conducted useful research and contributed interesting resources to the library; we look forward to working with more Southampton students in the future.”

PM World offers virtual project management research internships to university students worldwide who are studying at recognized universities.  Internships offer students an opportunity to research specific program/project management topics, network with other interns, gain visibility and enhance their CVs.
