Tongji University Achieves PMI GAC Accreditation in China


On Saturday the 15th of September the PMI Global Accreditation Center (GAC) for Project Management Education Programs awarded accreditation to Tongji University for their Master of Engineering in Project Management. The accreditation award was presented by GAC Chair John Cable. Dr. Qian Shi accepted the award on behalf of Tongji University.

According to Prof Cable’s speech at the ceremony in Beijing:

The PMI GAC is a specialized accrediting body. Our mission is to advance excellence in project management education worldwide through collaboration with and support of academic institutions through accreditation of academic programs. We are committed to the attainment of and continuous improvement of excellence in project management education. The primary objective is to ensure that “GAC Accredited” education programs prepare students to meet the current and anticipated needs of businesses, government, and non-profit organizations for qualified professionals in the field of project management.

Credible institutions of higher learning seek to demonstrate the quality of their specialized academic programs by also having them accredited. You have achieved the high distinction of earning programmatic accreditation by meeting or exceeding a set of high international standards developed by global peers.

Graduates from Tongji now join students graduating from Tsinghua, Shanghai Jiao Tong, and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunication in benefiting from waiving the requirement to take the course in preparation for taking the PMP exam from PMI.

Established by PMI in 2001, the PMI GAC accredits degree programs at the bachelors, masters and doctorate levels in the field of project management that are offered within accredited institutions of higher education worldwide.  The GAC confers accreditation only upon the degree programs within institutions that meet the accreditation standards defined in the GAC Handbook of Accreditation of Degree Programs in Project Management – Third Edition.
