November 2018 PM Update from Buenos Aires

“Social Project Management Day” and “PMI Tour Cono Sur 2018” (Report from Argentina)

Focused on disseminating project management practices in organizations with social purposes, such as foundations and NGOs, the event called “Social Project Management Day” (SPMD) has taken place recently both in the city of Cordoba, and in Buenos Aires.

This event, sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and organized jointly with local PMI Chapters and Universities, aims to bring organizations closer to project management through presentations, introduction to project management practices and coaching provided by PMI Chapter volunteers with PMP credentials.

The SPMD was held in Cordoba on October 16th and was attended by about 20 organizations, while in Buenos Aires, it was held on Friday, October 19th, at the Universidad Catolica Argentina, and had an audience of more than 40 organizations.

In the case of Buenos Aires, this interesting event began with the welcome of the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Agricultural Sciences of the Universidad Catolica Argentina, Eng. Norma Ciatti, followed by the Vice President of PMI Buenos Aires Argentina Chapter, Eng. Adriana Cibelli, PMP, who gave an brief introduction to project management, to PMI and to the Buenos Aires Chapter, and then continued with the presentation of Verónica Sala, PMP, PMI Educational Foundation Liason, to conclude with the presentation of the representative of the Inter-American Development Bank, and sponsor of the SPMD, Mr. Ernesto Mondelo, PMP.

The Director of the Emmanuel Foundation, Ms. Monica Perahuer accompanied by a group of volunteers from the foundation, presented the project of the Social, Cultural and Sports Club, which they are developing following good project management practices, through training and guidance received in 2016 from volunteers from the PMI Buenos Aires Chapter and the PMI Educational Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Project Management Institute.

She was PMI’s Mentor for Region 13, Latin America South, for the years 2014-2016.  Cecilia participated in the development of PMI’s PMBOK® Guide 5th Edition, leading the Chapter 9, Human Resource Management, content team; she is professor of Project Management and Leadership in some Universities and Institutes in Latin America.
