The book begins with a case study about why Dollar General can open two new stores every day.  It reviews the evolution of supply chain management concepts, discusses supply chain management strategic importance, and illustrates its trends in global markets.

The authors use best practices, examples of how global companies have managed their supply chain by case studies, real world data, charts, and, success failure stories in real world practices of supply chain management.

The book also emphasizes how political, geographic, and cultural factors play important roles in global supply chain management implementation.  It explains why companies need to adjust their supply chain management style and techniques, and redesign their operations.
