GAUTENG: ‘GAUTRAIN – A DAY IN THE LIFE… WITH JACK VAN DER MERWE, CEO OF GAUTRAIN MANAGEMENT AGENCY’

In celebration of International Project Management Day on the 6th November 2014, PMSA Gauteng is delighted to invite you to a presentation and round table with Gautrain Management Agency  CEO, Jack van der Merwe.  Jack will share with attendees a ‘day in the life’ of what it takes to run an internationally acclaimed legacy project as well as what the future holds for the Gautrain project. Jack van der Merwe, is a professional Engineer. He was born in Pretoria and obtained the degrees B.Sc (Eng.) Civil and B.Sc (Eng.) (Hons.) Civil from the University of Pretoria. He is also a graduate of the Harvard Business School’s SED programme.

Up to the 2004 general elections Jack was the Chief Executive of the Gauteng Department of Public Transport, Roads and Works. Apart from heading the Department he was also the project leader for the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link, one of the eleven Blue IQ long term economic development projects of the Province. In April 2004 he was redeployed to head a newly established Public-Private-Partnership Department in the Province, focusing on gearing in private sector funding, experience and innovation for capital projects. He will be implementing the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link and the GPG Government Precinct.

Jack is currently the CEO of the Gautrain Management Agency tasked with overseeing the building and operation of the Gautrain Rapid Rail Link.

KWAZULU NATAL: ‘PMOs – GETTING IT RIGHT – GUY JELLEY, CEO OF PPO’

The KZN branch of PMSA will celebrate International Project Management Day on 6 November with a presentation by Guy Jelley entitled ‘PMOs – Getting it Right’ to be held at the Durban Country Club at 17:30 for 18:00.  Guy, co-founder and CEO of Project Portfolio Office, will share practical examples and simple lessons of how some of their clients have got it right and are adding values to their organisations.

His presentation is based on the fact that almost 50% of all strategic initiatives are reported as unsuccessful.  It will be of particular interest on the many PMOs who are constantly justifying their value to an organisation and are having to deal with new challenges to successful delivery.

Project Portfolio Office, is an award winning online project portfolio management and collaboration application and is the fastest growing PPM application in South Africa today. WESTERN CAPE: ‘THE SKA TOUR WITH WILLEM ESTERHUYSE, MEERKAT PROJECT MANAGER’

The SKA project is an international effort to build the world’s largest radio telescope, with a square kilometre (one million square metres) of collecting area.

The scale of the SKA represents a huge leap forward in both engineering and research & development towards building and delivering a radio telescope, and will deliver a correspondingly transformational increase in science capability when operational.

The PMSA Western Cape Branch will be offering members a chance to attend a presentation by Meerkat Project Manager Willem Esterhuyse at the SKA offices in Pinelands for 14:00 on Thursday 6th November 2014.
